Sheffield Blitz
The last event on the calender, just had it confirmed today that it is taking place, it's in the Moor on the Sunday 11th December, the Moor was pretty much obliterated. Only Keith and myself there last year so this year i'm invited as bomb disposal and will be taking my display and attending as R.E. very apt.

Re: Sheffield Blitz
Are we doing anything during this event or is it just living history?

Re: Sheffield Blitz
Just mixing/bimbling AU is okay i guess so long as you get your story right, were invited as Home guard. This is a laid back event, to comemorate the bombing on the night of the 12th, it's in the shopping centre The Moor, there will be a plaque unveiling ceremony, not much cover unless you dodge into Freeman Hardy Willis or Boots.

Re: Sheffield Blitz
As i said earlier there was no interest last year even though a budget, spoke to some lads at Rufford who was there also as BD and decided my BD impression was a good idea for it, also the organiser wants me there as such, along with as many H.G. as poss.

Re: Sheffield Blitz
Yes there are a few other units there even Ian was there last year but as Para with big and little bang, who made a lovely cup of tea for us. But dont expect too much it's very similar to Castleford event. It's not up to me really but as usual i suppose AU will be above most's head, and it's very cold for denim.Harold and maybe Keith and Paul will be as H.G.

Re: Sheffield Blitz
Hi gents just asked the organiser what's happening and can we take arms here's what he said.
hi james, there is plenty of space for displays, we are doing our RE bomb disposal display. and its a very informal affair, most of the day is taken up explaining the blitz to sheffield shoppers who, for the most part had no idea the centre of sheffield was flattened in 1940...
see you there.
yes, any deac weapons but no bayonets or edged weapons ( local bylaw for the city centre)

Heyup all
Just heard off organiser this morning that off street parking is available (car parks are a fortune)the best way in is as suspected off moor street via Rockingham gate which leds to Rockingham way (the moor is paved pedestrienised.)not heard the one re bayonets we took them last year? So who's going?

Re: Sheffield Blitz
I hope to be there before 9 to unload, think some want to follow me in, officially starts at 11? weather at moment for Sunday appears to be warmer but rainy? with all this wind that could change. Not too happy to be displaying if the weather really rough, not up to it at mo.

Enjoyed the day. Wasn't sure what to expect but it turned out good (except the bloody rain). Sheffield Mayor was very impressed with our turn out for the unveiling ceremony (see picture above). Lots of shoppers didn't really know what the day was about but were soon very enthusiastic and interested when they learned. It was great meeting up again and I'm looking forward to next season already. Merry Xmas everybody!!!

Re: Sheffield Blitz
Thats a grim face i have James, mind you it was a grim day and a grim job. Not surprised that i had comments from folk who remember the blitz as kids, what was surprising is that most remember it as being exciting, interesting, thats probably the best way to get through it without too much trauma.
