Stoneleigh is on the Sunday 29th January, set off around 8.30 [thought i might give it a miss and did Newark instead but was a little disopointing so going here now] I don't mind driving [unless someone wants to offer]I can take 4 plus me it will be £8 for petrol each [more if not 4 passangers]. Think James and H are my first two reservd.

last time I went, it was German splinter parka and einheitsmutze, jeans etc. That passes for mufti in our house! I may go American as the Japanese Admiral outfit is in the wash. I wear for warmth and number of pockets to stash stuff in.

James, I've got a list of army slang stuff and abreviations - very useful to sling in conversation
. People in the 40s spoke quite differently to how we do now and there was a much more pronounced class system ie the upper and higher middle class became officers! They spoke in Oxbridge accents and expected the lower classes ie the rest of us, to treat them accordingly.

The Tommy of WW2 had a language of his own, taking on words and phrases picked up in foreign lands together with the usual Anglo Saxon (you all know these), and Military abbreviations. Here are a few words, phrases and abbreviations you can slip into the conversations at shows. Spellings not guaranteed!

Cheers James, doesn't usually happen like that!
2nd time I went my car broke down on some roadworks near services south of Donny. AA said its choice between being towed home or to Stoneleigh - so it was towed to Stoners! Wink Not worth repairing because the snapped timing belt meant a mashed engine, so it was recovered by scrap man from Stoneleigh and we got the train home LOL! That was an expensive weekend.
    Budget much lower this year.
Thanks for the PM on the other forum too. Glad you informed the guy,
    ttfn
